Vilanova releases the organic candies in its Carnival war
The comparsas of Carnival of Vilanova i la Geltrú have given a truce this year to the environment with the use of sweets with biodegradable packaging, a relevant novelty to reduce the consequences of the star act of this celebration of the Garraf capital. During more than three hours of battles, 127 tons of goodies have been launched, 25 of which are ‘ecocandies’, a first step to solve the environmental problems posed by the plastics that then remain in the streets and sewers of the city.
In the battle of sweets 17,000 people have participated and has begun, as is traditional, in the Plaza de la Villa shouting “Comparsas y comparseros, the plaza is yours!”. It is the men who throw the candies, while the women use the shawl as a protective shield.
